Moscow Chekhov Art Theater
2018

Director: Yuri Butusov
Costume designer: Julia Vetrova

The process of working on this performance was ideal for me, unlike any previous theatrical experience, I call it "pure creativity." We created a performance from rehearsals, every day from morning to evening. We first composed the layout, detailed it or, on the contrary, removed everything unnecessary, then we designed this layout on a large scale in the rehearsal room and the actors entered there with their thoughts, feelings, emotions and text.
Then, during the rehearsals, we began to compose costumes and characters that were supposed to fill the space of the stage, it was a continuous process, we tried different characters, combined the most unexpected elements of clothing, masks, and did makeup. Everything was brought into the performance through tests in rehearsals. I remember a huge number of costumes and images that even now sometimes pass me by in retrospect.
Every day we tried something new, paradoxical, unpredictable, it was incredibly interesting. Working on this performance taught me a lot about my profession.
